James Gurnick enjoys seeing his clients succeed and is committed to providing excellent service, advice and representation.

 

James is an experienced litigator, providing advice and representation on a range of civil, criminal, and public law matters. He is an effective trial and appellate advocate and has conducted many jury trials and appeals. James has appeared in most courts and tribunals in New Zealand including the Court of Appeal.

As a civil litigator, James has experience in a wide range of general civil and commercial cases involving contract and property disputes, Fair Trading Act claims, share-milking disputes and securities. James has significant experience in matters involving the Commissioner of Inland Revenue including bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings.  James accepts instructions in relation to all types of disputes involving individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies, whether based in contract or otherwise.

James also has expertise in defending all types of criminal and regulatory prosecutions, including: serious criminal offences, fraud, Worksafe NZ, Resource Management Act, fisheries and animal welfare prosecutions. He provides advice to clients who are subject to prosecution by local authorities and investigation by Government agencies including the Commissioner of Police. James also has experience acting for clients in professional disciplinary proceedings and coronial inquiries.
 

James is available to accept private instructions in all criminal matters. He is also an approved legal aid provider for all categories of criminal offending and can accept instructions as preferred counsel in serious cases.

James is also a Member of the Abuse in Care Inquiry Legal Assistance Panel.
