Recent Cases

  • Waikato Regional Council v B -  Argued successfully for a discharge without conviction for defendant charged with breaches of Resource Management Act. Also succeeded in obtaining permanent name suppression. 

  • Worksafe NZ v Hamilton City Council – Represented Hamilton City Council in Worksafe prosecution involving death of Hamilton Zoo curator caused by Sumatran Tiger.

  • Worksafe NZ v Metrapanel Limited - Represented defendant in Worksafe prosecution involving death of employee caused by falling panels.

  • Worksafe NZ v Affco New Zealand Limited - Represented defendant in Worksafe prosecution (acquitted on 4 of 6 charges) involving meat processing operation.

  • Waikato Regional Council v Open Country Dairy Limited – Represented defendant in resource management prosecution relating to breaches of the Resource Management Act.

  • Bay of Plenty Regional Council v Rotorua District Council - Acted for Rotorua District Council in relation to Resource Management Act prosecution.

  • Waikato Regional Council v Smith - Represented farmer charged with unlawful discharge of contaminant onto land under Resource Management Act.

  • Taupo District Council v  McClintock - acted for Taupo District Council in High Court and Court of Appeal in successfully defending District Court decision ordering destruction of dog.

  • R v Cyrus Ormsby - represented defendant in motor manslaughter case.

  • R v Pahau & Others - represented the Crown in gang related murder trial.

  • Successfully defended client in arbitration proceedings involving claims for breach of contract involving significant multi-million dollar property asset.

  • Ian Johnson Pharmacy Limited v GlaxoSmithKline NZ Limited – successfully represented plaintiff against GSK in relation to breach of contract claim seeking damages in restitution in relation to recall of drug Marevan.

  • Wells Instrument & Electrical v Shree Sai Holdings Limited – represented a successful appellant in opposing the granting of a liquor licence in an area close to a church and local school.

  • Represented group of investors in High Court proceedings involving multi-million dollar claim against a vendor and a real estate company for alleged breaches of  the Securities Act and Fair Trading Act.

  • Assisted Hamilton City Council in judicial review proceedings in respect of Local Approved Products Policy involving psychoactive substances.

  • Assisted Hamilton City Council in judicial review proceedings involving fluoride in water.
